Visa and Mastercard have agreed to pay a combined 167.5mtosettleaclass−actionlawsuitaccusingthemofconspiringtokeepATMaccessfeesartificiallyhigh.TheproposedsettlementwasfiledonThursdayinthefederaldistrictcourtinWashingtonandrequiresajudge’sapproval.TheaccordwouldpaypotentiallymillionsofATMuserswhowerechargedanunreimbursedaccessfeetowithdrawcashfromindependent,non−bankATMs.Visawouldcontributeabout167.5m to settle a class-action lawsuit accusing them of conspiring to keep ATM access fees artificially high.
