Gold (GC=F) futures opened at $4,350.30 per troy ounce Tuesday, up 0.2$4,343.60. Gold’s opening price is 4.5% lower than the high of $4,556.30 achieved on Dec. 26. Gold first eclipsed$4,500 a troy ounce on Dec. 23 after trading between $3,900 and$4,400 for most of the fourth quarter. In that range, the price of gold was up about 48% to 67% for the year.
